Prompt Length Limit prompts to 4-8 lines, which is typically 1-2 verses. Longer prompts may cause the model to omit parts of your prompt or to hallucinate, and very long prompts will be auto-moderated by Discord. You can use the Continue (⏩) feature to extend any generation and create longer songs by stitching together multiple shorter clips.
Newlines Use newlines in your prompts. Put each line of your song on its own line, and add an extra blank line between the verse, chorus, etc. Here’s a well-formatted example:
Newlines
I’ve been tryna call
I’ve been on my own for long enough
Maybe you can show me how to love, maybe
I said, ooh, I’m blinded by the lights
No, I can’t sleep until I feel your touch
I said, ooh, I’m drowning in the night
Oh, when I’m like this, you’re the one I trust
Hey, hey, hey
Punctuation Remove punctuation from the end of each line for best results. You can keep commas in the middle of lines, but we recommend removing commas and periods from the end of each line.
✅ No, I can’t sleep until I feel your touch
But avoid this:
❌ No, I can’t sleep until I feel your touch,
And this:
❌  No, I can’t sleep until I feel your touch.
Brackets invoke [metatags], and parentheses invoke (ad libs). See Metatags and Ad Libs in the SUNO-201 section below for more info on using these features.
Metatags Like glitter, cowbell and most things in life for that matter, metatags are best used in moderation. When filling out the Describe the Style of Music field in the Chirp pop-up, you can use genres like rock, country and edm, descriptive adjectives like upbeat and melodic or combinations of the two like upbeat edm.
Relatedly, combinations of relatively obscure or seldomly paired genres (e.g., vaporwave polka , enka bluegrass or bluegrass dubstep) are more likely to result in chaos. Whether that’s a feature or a bug, we leave you to you to decide.
The model doesn’t recognize artist-specific metatags like Drake, Frank Sinatra, etc.
If you’re having trouble getting the model to sing with a complicated song description, try adding the tag vocals to help the model recognize that the lyrics are meant to be sung.
SUNO-201
Song Structure Metatags Experiment with song structure metatags like [Verse] and [Chorus]. We’ve found that adding a blank newline between sections yields the best results, but the jury is still out on best practices here. Let us know what you think in the #made-with-suno channel on Discord.
Here’s an example of a prompt with song structure metatags added:
Song Structure Metatags
[Verse]
I’ve been tryna call
I’ve been on my own for long enough
Maybe you can show me how to love, maybe
[Chorus]
I said, ooh, I’m blinded by the lights
No, I can’t sleep until I feel your touch
I said, ooh, I’m drowning in the night
Oh, when I’m like this, you’re the one I trust
Hey, hey, hey
Ad Libs Ad libs are vocals embellishments you can add to your prompts in (parentheses). Ad libs tend to work best at the end of a line in your prompt, but we’ve seen mixed results with mid-line ad libs. Unlike metatags, ad libs are sung/verbalized. Like metatags, we recommend using them in moderation for the best results.

Other things to try:
Non-Lexical Vocables Experiment with non-lexical vocables, a form of nonsense syllable used in a wide range of genres. Try adding non-lexical vocables like la la la, na na na, sha na na Try adding non-lexical vocables to your prompts — especially short ones — to extend them in interesting ways.
